Exactitudes x Duran Lantink show at the Emergence Section of Paris Photo 2025
Book Launch, 7th (the FINAL) edition of Exactitudes @ Paris Photo
Bringing to this year’s Paris Photo, Madé van Krimpen gallery will be representing Duran Lantink’s collage series together with the iconic photography project Exactitudes. What started in 1994 in Rotterdam, over the decades grew into a quest to map out socio-cultural landscapes of style. Through rigid photographic grids Exactitudes, documented how individuality folds into group codes: subcultures, scenes, and communities revealed through subtle variations in dress, posture, and presence. When Lantink came across these stylized grids of images, they captured his attention and sparked an inspiration to reuse them as part of his graduation project. In a similar fashion to his zero-waste garments and upcycled collections, he refabricated the photos into playful collages that exemplify the reimagination of oneself through clothing, hinting at the fluid, constructed, and often contradictory nature of self-image in contemporary culture.

Behind Exactitudes is the Dutch artist-duo Ari Versluis and Ellie Uyttenbroek. Their project became internationally prominent in the past decades not only for its aesthetic clarity, but also for the questions it quietly poses about belonging, difference, and the performance of identity. Taking the urban, common runway: the streets of Amsterdam, Berlin, Florence, etc. as a socio-cultural landscape, Exactitudes have been acutely capturing how we wear signs of our microcommunities, identity markers, and beliefs, blending individualism with conformity.
Reminiscent of those early natural science books and snapshots of the project follows a similarly rigid and stylized format with its white studio background and squared frames. On the contrary, cutting into and remixing the images into hybrid characters, Lantink’s collages are visual interventions against reductive and homogenous social labels and markers. The recently appointed director of Jean Paul Gaultier, Duran Lantink reinterprets Exactitudes with the aim of (re)discovering the dynamic and innovative potentials of affixing; a photo, a piece of clothing, a gender.
By presenting the two series together, we are aiming to incite a dialogue not only between them, but on both timeless and present questions on identity formations and manifestation and how we seek to fit in while staying unique individuals.
