Paul Kooiker was born in 1964 in Rotterdam, NL. Kooiker’s work is liberated from the traditional conventions of art photography and leans more towards "installation." Kooiker is not interested in producing perfect photographic images. His work always takes form in the post-production phase, where he selects and manipulates the work. In recent years, Kooiker has been embraced by the fashion industry. His work has appeared in publications such as Le Monde, AnOther Magazine and Perfect Magazine.

He studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam (1990–1992, NL). Kooiker was awarded the Prix-de-Rome Photography in 1996 and the A. Roland Holst Award for his oeuvre in 2009.
